Giovanni Sardisco, known in the art world as Giovanni da Monreale, was born in Monreale (Palermo) on June 16, 1980. After graduating at the Mario D’aleo Art Institute in 1999, he attended the sculpture section at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. In 2002, he moved to Carrara where he graduated in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts specializing in Performing Arts and Disciplines. After completing his studies, he collaborated with well-known sculpture studios, artistic foundries and local and foreign artists in Pietrasanta.
Since 2013, Giovanni has been active in an urban recovery art project through sculpture. He has installed works in fiberglass or reinforced concrete in various cities in Italy and abroad, preferring areas in a state of decay. The life size sculptures represent children or teenagers caught in the act of playing a video game or navigating with a smartphone: their intention is to encourage people to reflect on the young people’s use of new technologies.
Giovanni proposes the same theme also in smaller scale sculptures which are exhibited in Art Galleries and Shows in Italy and abroad.
In 2014 he opened the “Officine Giovanni da Monreale”, where he still lives and works.
Among the cultural figures who have talked about his work, we highlight: Luca Basile, Luca Bottura, Luca Cinotti, Silvia De Santis, Pietro Di Domenico, Cinzia Donati, Daniele Masseglia, Laura Montanari, Gabriele Nuti, Elena Torre.
